Fitting replacement body panels (October 2005)

With the body shell stripped of paint, it was time for a first installation of the doors and wings.

Guide coat

The curvy parts were sprayed with a guide coat to reveal any surface irregularities.

Interior details

Some shots of the interior of the body shell, now looking very solid.

The naming of parts

Our garden shed contained a vast array of Beetle parts for the duration of the project. Periodic stocktaking was required to keep tabs on what was out there.

Upholstery

Sadly, the Marine Blue velour material used for to cover the seats in Last Edition Beetles is now unobtainable. However, we chose a fabric with a reasonably similar colour to the original and Barbara, the upholstery specialist at Melvyn Rutter Limited stitched the new covers to reproduce the pattern, so they look very authentic.
