LEB plaque allocation

This is interesting. It's the only proof we've ever seen that the Last Edition Beetles had their plaque numbers pre-allocated by chassis. Sadly, that didn't stop the dealers doing their own thing.

To our enduring frustration, most of the LEB plaques were not attached to the cars before they were sold. Instead, they were provided to dealers late, and then needed to be forwarded. Needless to say, this allocation was something of a shambles, with many owners never receiving them. Here's an example of a covering letter from conscientious dealer William Arnold Ltd to a lucky customer.
